FMP Evaluation

Once I had changed my FMP I decided to focus more on the body language and the facial expression. From the interviews I had taken from my peers it had formed my final idea which was to the appearance of a person who has a set style so when meeting their friend with their change it would be drastic. The Whole project was successful to an extent to where my artistic background had been explored using impasto painting which had made body language and facial expression develop into a solid idea. The short film had after editing complimented the paint by turning into an art film and worked well. If I had more time I would have looked into a promotion and where this video would have been useful. Would have gone into how appearance changes a person as well as their peers and used it as a campaign in trying new looks.
In my final outcome I had made a film which I had consisted of four people which knew each other well enough to know their appearance which I had changed and the focus of the film was the other person reaction to their new appearance as well as their own reaction. With painted acetate I used them to cover the lens to disguise the body language for the audience to interpret for them self what the story is behind the paint. My original project proposal had change as initially wanted to focus of how people become friends using body language and their appearance that can encourage this friendship, but instead I looked how two friends adapt to each other which is read through their reactions which could then be taken further into people changeling their comfort zone and trying new things with whom they feel comfortable in.
My fmp blog helped me form a physical change from my original proposal to my improved idea as the initially the base of the project wasn’t strong enough, so I was able to document the process much easier. My plan helped me schedule when I was to focus on but some part had overlapped for example when I looked at two artist after I did a bit of experimenting who linked and I developed using those artist work. Throughout my a sketchbook my work flowed easy  but I couldn’t document the actually videos I had taken which meant I had to rely on the blog which felt like I had missing parts from my sketchbook so I have had to take screen shoots.
From the project plan I had achieved visiting the galleries and another few unexpected ones in Berlin and during the project. I had used the definitive book of body language and artist to develop the research on body language. I had also researched two artist who helped me develop my work to disjoint the image. Instead of finding spaces where people would meet I had interviewed people on their preferences on people appearances. I had experimented with a short film with the painted acetate to cover my models faces which wasn’t in the project plan but worked well and featured in my final (I used the stills).  Once I had developed the paintings I had progressed into my final film which had then been filmed edited and taken stills from the film.
The developments that was contributed to my final outcome was from when I first experimented with the painting on acetate .which firstly started with placing on top of the photo then developed to hide or suggest what’s going on in the photo which become the signature look throughout my work. It focused more on the effect of the paint then the people who took part which lead to the final editing that the discussion was made that the sound was to compliment the picture and not to focus on the surrounds and what is being said in the shirt film.
The advice given to me at the start and mid way through FMP was
Two artist who my work reminding them of which helped me develop my work. I had also been suggested to visit the Richard Hamilton exhibition which was the start of my inspiration. At the end of my project I had been told about this website style like me which two people with opposite style which their attire for a week, sadly it was too late to use as a reference but will defiantly use this in future use. As I was talking to my tutor and messing around with my painted acetate we had realized if I got someone to hold the it in front of their face I could create a film.
From this I have taken away how to edit a film, from the sound for the backing how to cut scenes, zoom in and out and hopefully next time I edit films ill will be able to do it by myself and learn few more ways to edit and even use more profession editing. From this I realized how useful blogs are to document my work as much of my work had changed at the beginning it was hard to document this in my sketchbook. This would be a useful idea for my future course because there is only certain type of work that can only be blogged then a sketchbook. I learnt how to be very critical of my work which leads me to believe that but learning new tech in a short space of time helps me develop my work better.

Fmp exhibtion set up

As I had taken my photos from videos the quality wasn't to a brilliant standard so i had the problem with blowing up the photos as they become pix elated so through editing and printing different sizes i had discovered a printer that printed a lining sort of paper which made the print look like it's painted which gives the photo a better effect and make the pix elated look better so instead of a acetate photos (which is a set of three) i have printed out on the lining paper. For two other sets from my final film i have enlarged 1 of the photos and kept the other two the same size. It would break up the series but finishing or ending on a bigger photo. As the photos where all from screen shots i had to edit quite a bit if i had the time i would of re shoot and after i had filmed my models i would of taken photos so the quality would of been better also the photos wouldn't be blurred from the movement. I was surprised how the effect of the lining paper of how it complimented the pixelated photos and turned them into a painted effect. I had laid out the photos just like i had in my book, 3 photos as a sequence as if it was telling a story.

FMP editing final

I used imovie to edit my film which I practiced to use it with my short video. At first I found editing my final video much harder as I had more film to deal with also finding the right back ground music found to be a challenged as it couldn't overthrow the focus of the film. At first with the models answering the question made the film a bit too long which made me bored. So then with the help of a peer we echoed the sound which turned the film into more of an art film than a documentary but it just focused on the point of the body language and gave the painted face and acetate more of a focus. If I could I re-shoot I would take it from head to toe and instead of the camera in one place I would of had it rotating to get different angles and then maybe the footage wouldn't have been so boring and had more life. With the help of my peer i had realised how much effects had changed the film into a intriguing video with zooming in and out the focusing on hand gestures and on the facial expression. For the show reel i will have to pick out the snippets that would give the ending or beginning of and isn't no longer then 1 minute. At first when I had cut bits out to make it into the show reel version it had made the background music choppy, so i had to separate the music from the clips and then re add it to the show reel version so the music flowed.

FMP filming of video shoot

For my video shoot I used two sets of people. Both of these sets of people know each other so they are familiar with each other's styles. I had to change one of the friend's outfit to a style they would never wear. The point of this is to capture the friend's reaction and to capture the body language of the subject that outfit that has been changed for the shoot. The change of clothes became a success because the reactions from my subjects were that they were really surprised by their friend's change of clothes and this reaction lasted throughout the video. Two of my original models cancelled at the last minute. I had asked two friends as back up and  they turned out better as these two knew each other longer which made the change of clothing more personal to them and I felt that the body language was stronger as they where more comfortable. As I hadn't had any previous experience with videos so I had to learn on the go. I had used a camera , lighting , a back drop, sound recorder but in the end I only used the camera and lighting. It turned out that the room I had was really small so I had to work round with the angle of the video. I adapted around it and got a knee to head shoo. It turned out that I would focus more on the body language and facial expressions. When it came to my painted acetate it blurred because it focused more on the model which was an unexpected effect. For the next stage I would have to edit the video to the extent where the sound is not the focus. The questions I asked was to provoke actions from each other which gave better reactions. While filming I thought I would edit out my voice and have just the voices of the models.

FMP still and prints

I had painted 4 acetates with different colours and styles each one different the colours are different and the styles are too. this is to create a different effect to the photo and filter. i first took photos before i did my film then i decided to see how it would look if i filmed while the acetate would look in front of the lens but moving. i really felt the acetate behind the lenses instead over a photo worked better because you can play around with the position and the facial expressions. i found printing to be a problem. I printed the photos on 3 different types of material. first was photography paper then i used acetate and then i used a lining paper. each one had made a big difference. The photography paper create a life like image. The acetate create a washy water look and the linning give a painted look. I've decided i would use the linning paper for my finals as the effect looks realistic.

FMP- short clips

Using my impasto paint on acetate in front of the camera, organically I had taken photos but as I was looking at the photos I realised I had missed some of the facial expressions so I filmed them again. From these short clips I came to the conclusion that while staring right at a camera and being told to 'hold up the acetate and move their head around' it became a difficult task. Firstly I had to take a few short clips because the acetate would move eventually it came to me that the movements and the facial expressions had been changed by the painted acetate as some of their faces were covered up.
I came to the conclusion that for the final I would use the acetate as a film to disguise or hide the expressions. I had taken away the original sound as it become distracting but then put on some calm music that had a neutral mood that wouldn't suggest what the subjects were feeling.

FMP experimental to development

I decided to take snapshots of people also had a friend take photos of me pulling faces to experiment with the impasto painting on top.  The black and white photos worked better with the colour paints and as colours represent emotions and feelings this adds a better effect, which brings depth to the photos. my next step is 3 photos thats have been taken in a squence to then choose on and bring it to life using the photos. the description of the body language and what they're wearing underneath will tell the audience what really happening while the impasto painting or sketches over the photo will give the oppersite scenario e.g red and green creating negative atmosphere due the the body language but the clothing giving a calm response. through the experimenting with the photos and paint i have realised i have focused on the stereotypes of clothing can change or emphasis the reaction from someone else. I've taken 3 photos taken straight after each other like a film reel and played around with the paint on the grey scale photos with the colour on top either making it priority or disguising it .

FMP sketching on acetate

I took photos of a friend and instead of painting on acetate i had drawn illustrations but on half of the photos. I  don't think this had much of a effect as the painting i added descriptions to the photos to focus on the body language but i think the photos worked better with writing and the photos should write for them self. what i should of tried is half illustrations half paint and see how the photos would of worked for the next stage i have decided that i should stick to the painted acetate and i feel like i need to develop styles to get towards my finals .

Fmp acetate and paint

I carried on using my face as a subject to experiment with the colours and styles of paint on acetate. i firstly used a full coloured photo and used black and white to paint on the acetate i felt that didnt have much of a impact. the second one i used a neon back and white photo but used a pink and blue paint, i had also illustrated on the acetate which had given the photo an extra effect. on the third one the photo was jsut a black out line with illustrate on top  of the acetate with orange pink paint on top. the fourth i had change the style of painting but creating waves in the paint which made the paint mix. i used green ,pinky/purple and white, i felt that out the four this was my favorite because of how one side was targeted while the other half didn't have paint on . this gave the illusion of hiding behind the paint.

FMP self portiats

I experimented with someone taking photos of me screwing up my face. I thought  by me doing this i would know what im feeling and by the the photo will show my facial expression with the paint i would either compliment or contrast. I had taken the same photo and triple it but the difference is that they had a different shade of monochrome. the grey tone would darken it would have been better if each one had gradually changed so their was flowing effect by using monochrome the paint would stand out . I had mixed the styles of Arunlf and Klein it had created a nice effect . i had also enlarged a photo to see what would happen with a bigger scale i had also made the photo with just black shadowing and outlining so the life was made by the colors and really changed the expression of the face. i would hope when i have more time i would enlarge the photo to an A3 with a series of three to see the effect. i was intrigued by how well the paint worked on the photos i assumed because i hadn't used a brush the look didn't look tactic but had a careless feel to them. I will carry on experimenting with greyscale of photos and the colours used for the painting.

FMP development to Arnulf Rainer

I was taken aback by my peers when they found my inturpritation of William klein photos  eye catching and made them want to look closer at the actual photo and try to figure out the facial expression/ the story of the photo.
Taking on the comments from my peers the message I'm trying to get across of hidden or disjointed body language, the hiding by paint, manipulate and change their body language. I had then looked at Arnulf Rainer who produces similar work but has more emotion and really disjoints the photo. While experimenting I used monochrome photos and the originals I took it really was easy but I found it demotivating  so I used the series and realised I could  do the sectioning of the individual photos and completely disjoint one photo as the chosen one.
I had started off with simple shoots that was caught off guard so they were natural and wasn't posed i also was really simple with the paint  experimented with monochrome photos and colored photos. my main focus was to disjoint the facial expressions i felt like this had a better effect as they made you stare more to figure out what the paint was hiding.

My next step is to touch on the subject about clothing and people's reaction to it. I will focus on how the interviewers say about what they feel in the situations which hopefully I can get encouragingly good shots of their faces

Fmp videos

I had taken short clips of students answering questions I had asked a few about styles of clothings. I found out how varied people's reactions were to clothing.
I would have hoped to get a few more so my variety of answers would have a better view of what people think of clothing. From the feedback I got from my interviews was quite informative. I also was made aware of how people already knew how they would react to certain type of styles. I had detailed and simple answers showing how much they personally felt about the subject which gave me more to think about.
If I had more time I would have booked out a recorder so the sound would have been better and I would have had more interviews to get a broader view.
I was surprised by the response with one interview by how he preferred a style and how people 'Think' it's to be worn, it really defined how he would approach those who wear a style to his standards and someone else.

FMP Development with William Klein

As I was experimenting with photos taken of people who were off guard I was introduced to William Klein. He picks a series of photos that have been taken directly after each other on a strip of negatives. Instead I decided to take a photo off guard and using Photoshop change them into a negative but darken each one . This effect made a difference to the features of the face, when I placed acetate on top and painted over it complimented it well because of the negative background and the colour highlighted the important bit. One of the series of the negative photos didn't graduate to a darker shade, sometimes the paint could be a bit too much and overpowered the photo, but for the series it can work for deselecting the most important photo out of the series.
As I develop more I hope to try three consecutive photos to make it look more of a natural progression.I was happy with how well the colors complimented the photos i took an interest to white when painting i used a plate knife as it meant the effect made wasn't so much controlled . out of the 3 photos i had allowed one photo not to be covered in paint but to outline while the others ' scribble' out the facial expression. there was the effect of deciding weather which photo i was happiest with and the ones i wasn't i 'ruined'.

FMP Analysis, Dorthy Iannan and Richard Hamilton

Having used the Definitive Book of Body Language I had taken photos of random people in Berlin and London and analysed the body language and also talked about the clothing to get a understanding of their day and thoughts. In the future I would want clearer photos as it was from my iphone and to not be noticed it was blurred. I was surprised by the amount of variety of photos I had collected.
In response to Iannan I had sketched photos and wrote a description, but in order to achieve a better photo I would  have taken a series of photos to create a short story.
In response to Hamilton I printed my random shoots of people on acetate and with a plain acetate I used impasto paint on top. I discovered that this is a strong point so I will experiment more I have also looked at Arnulf Raiher and William Klien who used similar ideas. Whereas Raiher uses more paint on monochrome photos Klien uses contact sheets with monochrome photos. I wish to create my responses using their techniques.

FMP Richard Hamilton

After the change of concept I had visited the Richard Hamilton exhibition, I had come across his self portrait 05.3.81 which had inspired me because it related to my concept. Hamilton had painted a picture of him self which seem to have a film over it and a impasto paint covering a part of his face. Firstly it looks as if his was trying to mask a his body language through his facial features or try to emphasis another emotion or bring attention to this emotion. What interested me about this piece that it caught my attention by the color of the paint it hid what the photo was trying to share but instead it was covered. it kept me guessing or imagine they are trapped by this paint trying to get out.It hides away some of the body language and part of facial expression which i think i would like to use within my work.

FMP Galleries

I visited the David Bailey Stardust exhibition (fashion photographer) his East-end photos really inspired me, they were unprepared and spontaneous leading to a raw finish. I was also in Berlin and two exhibitions that caught  my interest were firstly I saw Helmut Newton ( fashion photographer) his work had captured me with his subjects being two women but one female having a male influence but still very feminine.
I also had gone to Dorthy Iannan (a feminist illustrator) who used story boards or had descriptions with her illustrations. On seeing this exhibition it made me realised I needed a stronger concept for my project, which I have now changed to how appearance can affect someone’s reactions. Using the photos i had taken before and which i had analysed and drew i had piked up how the appearance of someone and their postures towards each other change. Due the slight change in my project i am to visit an artist who can bring a different aspect and focus on more of the story then the appearance to get a solid theme.

FMP illustration body language

After reading and using the informative pieces of information of 'The definitive book of body language'  a took one of the photos i had taken of random people on the street and drew illustrations after i did that i wrote the descriptions of the people. i was influenced by Dorthy Iannane she expressed her feminist view through illustrations that formed a story board.  In one illustration i had drew it in black pen and in another i used blue water colour, it made the piece united and emphasized parts which showed how they connected. what didn't work was the presentation in my sketch book as the writing covered part of the drawing. If i had the time i would have developed the illustrations a bit more and experimented with different colors and compositions. From these two drawing i hope to carry these to the end as i enjoyed and felt that these represented body language as well as effective. i was surprised by the response of the drawings i wasn't sure f they would come across as well as i hoped but i was proved wrong. In the next stage im planning to take ip the style of Richard Hamiltion work.

FMP The Definitive Book of Body Language

The Definitive Book of Body Language by Allan and Barbara Pease. I have chosen this book because of the reviews. It is a very detailed book which I had to condense to get the information that I found more relevant to me. I had also noticed that I picked up the behaviors of  others around me and it made me realised that when I take photos of random people I had to look out for the most striking body language. It also made me realised I am to focus on the clothing because of the reaction someone gives the and the way someone responds. If i had enough time i would have got peers of mine to re enact this postures and question them or others if they realised if they act this way or would they do it differently if they're aware. what didn't work with this research is that i felt that i hadn't gone into much depth. I had only touch the subject but as i was taking the photos i had notice what people was wearing and they way they had positioned them self and had come to the conclusion that the way people dress them self effects how they're with people and how they react with others.  My next step is to give examples of how people behave and do short videos of people and think about how someone presents themselves.

FMP steps to becoming friends

My project will be about how two people become friends; I will be studying their body language through books I've read. I will be also be looking at Tim Walker and Nick Knight because of how they exaggerate within their photos and emphasis the story they are trying to tell. I will look at Sally Mann who produces  raw photos and the chemistry within the photos really show a story behind each piece. I have picked two females who haven't met before who have contrasts as well as similarities, they will meet and I will document the  progress. By this it will allow them both to build a relationship. At the moment I have an idea for the final photo shoot but the environment will be in the idea of where people meet e.g. coffee shops, university and secondary schools.
My project have flaws so I have decided once i have researched and visited galleries that i will develop my idea to become solid. I will hoe to look in to artists to explore the depths of body language as artist and produce a signature theme to go throughout the project and will see the process of the theme. I hope to create something that might not necessary make a person to understand what is trying to come across but to make you think and relate .

F.P Trend

The focus for the project was trends we had looked run down areas that could have started a trend and bring this area to life. We had chosen Stamford hill, it may not be as run down but it was known for a reputation of having a big community of jewish people. The aim was to introduce feminine feminist too contrast with the community that is already there. But by this we wanted the two parties to get along and have the idea that this trend was developed within the area, so the idea of pretty jewish girls that mix with the Jewish tailored clothing
We had looked at ‘dirty girls’ on youtube which had inspired out hair we had all looked at ‘pussy riot’ who was a feminist group who had used a church as a demonstration.
For the final we had use 3 models we varied the height and colour skin to make it inclusive to everyone. The article we had included their ideas on feminism and about their lives. The point is to encourage tat anyone can be part of this trend and be included .

F.P sportswear

For fashion promtion the focus was on how to promote the sport, i had researched into horse ridding for showcase and for racing . i had looked at magazines which was more sexual where as when i was looking at Zara Philps and her range was all sensible. From personal experience i knew i had access to horse ridding equipment . So i had decided to mix the old with the new. where horse riders tend to use neutral colours i had decided to use bright colours.
i had used an old whip horse riding hate and gloves. i had an issue with the props as they were to dusty and too small. i also had a few problems with lighting till i had turned on the lights and then shut the curtains. i had still edited the lighting contrasting and brightness. overall with the plain background and simple approach to the promting a editorial effective .

F.P Deconstruction and Reconstruction

For this project the focus is on the deconstruction and recreating a new piece with the pieces we had made. i had not really paid attention to to detail until this task. I had firstly cut up a shirt, jumper, a dress, smart pair of trousers and jeggings, each material had created a different texture making different shape and patterns.
once i had decided from the pieces if material form thedeconstrustion i had decided to make a cloak i had decided because from the trousers the material was stiff enough to be the base and  from the dress the chiffon had created asort of flare for the top and also a piece of embroidery to add to the finishing touches. out of the the rest of the left over material i had turned them intoflowers which was basically scrunched up and sewn by hand to create them.
after the feed back i had then thought of a theme that would compliment the piece . i had thought of a fairy tale theme. I had to think of a way to get the scene across by not overshadowing the main attraction. I had used a cut out tree to create a shadow and used it as the background for my model. i had use one of the roses as a prop which is held up in the model hand, so the attention was on the final piece i had edited out the plug that was in the background adjusted the lighting brightness and contrast to make the picture much clearer.

F,P Christmas task - 12 photos

I  was inspired by an 'Hotel Chocolat' box which had fashion illustration's by Bill Donovan. I had drawn these figures all receiving a gold envelop which would be an invitation to a Christmas party with no connection to each other .Each female have their own look and style.

F.P prop making and photo shoot

I has chosen tickets as an object I has re drawn photocopied added other material to make 3-D with these tickets to create a prop .
I had then gone to the isbella blow exhibition where I was inspired by a manikin . Which I had sketches out and change into a ticket holder for an old exhibition. I had then drawn a small version which aaa easier then doing the big version becuase I had taken into account the weight and the stand which kept falling. I had then realisedtjay the prop could turn into a back drop aswell as a prop. By using light I had discovered this.

F.P styling for prada winter collection

I had researched prada catwalk shows and found common styles they use and what I had to included in this collection I had created the styles on the mankinis for a visual look.
After the research and had got the designs from the designers I had started to create the styles.
This had helped becuase I was able to get better ideas that help change the looks to see what's better . This is moveable and I plan to use this technique for future use .

F.P introduction of techniques - designing

Using pen I was to draw a simple drawing that I would use for every drawing this is what would become the repeating signature of the collection. I had quick sketches skirts trousers dresses coats sleeves and collars .
Then I had choose a few designs which I improved.
Then for the final collection I had picked fabric and colours . Through this session I picked up a useful tip of the quick drawings it really help pick up good ideas and mix them.

F.P introduction to techniques - photo shoot

First had to research background on photoshoots and put together mood boards, hair , make up , theme and background.
I had chosen clothes and experimented with them on a model I had learnt how to use the light to my advantage and the way colour of the clothes create a mood.
Once I had chosen my background I took another model with the same clothes. Once I had chosen my finals u had edited. For the future I would have research on poses and muses for the shoot.

F.P introduction to techniques - knitting

had learnt 5 different ways of knitting . Frist was the simple knit .
Then was a technique where holes are made in the order to create a pattern .
Then learnt to create gathers withing knitting using a needle which help to take out loops and put them back in .
Then how to manage to creat strips by linking in a different colours.
Aswell as creating a spiral effect with ethe different colours and finally creat a bigger knit which included all the techniques all together . I would next time have more practice on the techniques as frist go at this had turned out well .

F.p introduction to techniques

I had chosen a bracelet and with that i had Photocopied, resize, change colour , cut and stuck to create different images. I had decided to turn them into backdrops. By this I had realised any object that would be presented in front of this would be plain so if I was to re do these designs I would have a prop in mind to help get the right attention for thi back drop aswell as knowing if they worked together.
